Biker Safe - Softening the barriers to Motor Cycle Safety

Roadside Barriers are designed to retain cars, van s and trucks but in many instances can be deadly for motorcyclists who collide with them and the number of serious and fatal injuries is increasing year on year as more people turn to this mode of transport.

Because motorcyclists form a minority of road users their safety is often routinely ignored, a fact recently highlighted in the Eurorap document ‘Barriers to Change’ which stated that “There is a lack of attention to safe road infrastructure for motorcyclists”. The same report noted that “Motorcyclists are 30 times more likely to be killed in a crash than car occupants and fifteen times more likely if they hit a barrier”.

‘Biker-Safe’ from Signpost Solutions attempts to address this problem. It is a containment mesh which is fitted to the lower section of the barrier to absorb the energy of the rider during impact and to ensure that they do not strike the barrier support upright which is one of the main causes of serious injury and fatalities.

This unique safety product which is manufactured in Spain is fireproof, maintenance free and totally recyclable. It has been tested to meet the standards EN1317 and UNE 135900 relating to vehicle and dummy post impact tests respectively.

Biker-Safe (Patented under the Spanish Product name BASYC) is the only system designed for motorcyclist collision safety that is energy absorbent and as such is less likely to pose an injury threat than other ‘solid’ lower barrier devices currently available for this specific purpose.
