SignPost Solutions are rightly acknowledged as the Passive Safety experts in the UK and have recently launched a new range of Passively Safe Lighting Columns.

The columns are manufactured by Sahko-Jokinen of Finland, the largest manufacturer of such products in Europe, under the trade name of ‘Kapu’ (meaning conical). The columns come with an excellent record of success with over 150 recorded impacts since 1994 and zero injuries proving that the product works as designed. Kapu is manufactured from thin wall steel to a patented design which is welded longitudinally with additional reinforced vanes.

In a collision the yielding of the ‘soft’ pole slows the speed of the colliding car. The controlled speed reduction softens the impact and the energy of the vehicle’s mass and speed get transformed into the deformation of the column which provides a short but gradual retardation.

The columns are available in 10m and 12m lengths, are approved to BS EN12767 and meet the High Energy (HE) classification, the most difficult to achieve.

BS EN12767 test results and third party verification documents have been viewed and approved by the Highways Agency and appear on the ‘Passive Revolution’ web site.

Kapu is manufactured to EN40 and is CE marked.
