Biker Mate

While passively safe (break away) signposts, lighting columns and signal poles are increasingly and successfully being deployed to prevent serious and fatal injuries to motor car drivers, they provide absolutely no safety benefits to the most vulnerable road user – motorcyclists! Statistics show that in the UK between 2003 and 2007 there were 250 motorcyclist fatalities and 880 serious injuries in collisions with these unforgiving roadside objects.

In response to this situation, SignPost Solutions have introduced an innovative new safety product called Biker Mate which is a low cost, easy to fit, maintenance free, mini crash cushion specifically designed to attach to posts of any description and size.

Biker Mate is a concept of SignPost Solutions, the UK’s leading expert and supplier of passively safe structures including Lattix, the safest passive sign support on the market today with a history of over 130 successful non injury impacts.

Biker-Mate is a patented design, has a large radius impact face, has no sharp edges, comes in modular form for stacking to any height, is extremely light and is easy to install. Static crush tests and dynamic impact tests were also used to predict the energy absorbing capacity of a modular unit, which found that Biker-Mate is capable of absorbing around 6,000J of energy, equivalent to 100% absorption of a 75kg person travelling at over 45kph.
